How Nexus works

Private conversations, simple room controls, and clear ownership.

1. Choose a name and room

Enter any room ID to create or join a room. A random ID makes a new private space. Public rooms appear in the public-room list; approval rooms require the owner to accept each person.

2. The creator receives an owner key

When a room is created, its owner receives a one-time secret key. Save it somewhere safe. The key lets you reclaim ownership if you leave and later return after the owner is offline.

3. What happens when everyone leaves?

Messages live only in the active server memory. When a room becomes empty, its active chat history disappears. Its saved room settings—such as the room ID, visibility, password, group picture, bans, and owner key—can remain so the owner can reclaim and reopen it. A server restart also clears chat history.

4. How entry works

Private rooms are link-only. Approval rooms send a request to the current owner. Public rooms can be discovered and joined. Owners can set an optional room-entry password, kick or ban members, update the picture, rename the room, and rotate the owner key.

5. Permanent usernames

A permanent username is password-protected. Once bought, nobody else can use that name without signing in. Ordinary aliases are still free and do not require an account.

6. Your privacy

Nexus does not retain normal chat history as a permanent archive. Operational data is stored to run and protect the service: room settings, support tickets, moderation records, permanent-account login details, and visitor security data such as IP address, visit time, last alias, and last room. Never share sensitive information in any online chat.
